Digital TV Converter - Winegard Batwing - Install Success

So... after reading mixed reports of DTV compatibility with the standard issue RV batwing amplified antenna I went ahead and sent off my request for the 40$ off coupons for the converter box. I recieved my coupons yesterday and headed out to get a "trial" box. My local Sears store had a Magnavox brand and the (according to both Cnet and Consumer Reports) superior featured Dish brand DTVpal box. The Dish brand cost me a whopping 3$ more out of pocket so I opted for it. http://www.dtvpal.com/ Got home, had dinner and a drink and headed out to the rv see if I could get it to work. Unplugged the existing coax from the winegard booster and connected it to the output on the converter box, then used the suppled coax to go from the signal in on the converter to the wall booster. Put the batteries in the remote. Left the Booster amp in the on position (green light on). Set the TV to channel 3 per the instruction and followed the on screen setup guide. It was pretty seamless.... Picked up 9 channels over two different frequencies without even raising the batwing or rotating it at all. Previously all I recieved at home was two very snowy channels. The dgital channnels are all crystal clear. I know ther has been some contorversy over this but I have to say it is quite an improvement over what I was getting before and I live in a relatively rural area. I have another coupon and now plan to pick up the second box for the bedroom tele in the rv or possibly to use at home. For once something actually worked for me.....

RE: Slide moving slowly??

The slide (14') on my Sunline T320 seems to be moving very slowly and sometimes needs a push to get it in. Ever since it was new,the slide would sometimes not make it all the way in or out without stopping. I would have to let the motor reset or cool off (not sure why it would stop)before I could continue...but I could always get it in or out. I do not hear any grinding and the rails have been lubed. It just seems like the batteries and/or the motor is weak. I have 2 batteries that are only 1 year old in there, and they are fully charged and I still have issues getting the slide in. Any ideas? You need a slighty higher amp 12v breaker. It looks like a fuse and is located inside the control panel for your slide. Call your dealer it's a pretty easy fix.

RE: My first Tow...weight problems HELP!

Will you be the first to the top of the hill? Nope. But you should get there. Just remember... when your climbing that 6-7% grade and you look behind you feel like your holding everyone up.... it's because you are. I don't have a problem with people pulling at max capacity but for god's sake use the turnouts and get out of the way.....

RE: Atwood Oven won't light

Anytime you can tweak and fiddle with your thingamobob and get a positive result is what I'd call a good day.

RE: how many of you camp with children

We took our first trip in four years without our 4yr old last weekend. It was fun for the first night.... But after that we were not sure what to do....

RE: Reciever Hitch Cover?

I don't see someone from Naples driving around with a wal-mart sack dragging along behind him..... Go to an upholstery/boat shop and have them make you a nice custom cover with a zipper.

RE: disconnect dual cam when backing?

The easy answer is that you may be fine backing up with them on but if something breaks you can't blame it on the dealer for not warning you.

RE: Well DH bought our new TT.

Funny... my wife love the pup too... she never had to set it up, never had to load it, never had to carry the thetford to the dump, never had to put it down, and NEVER HAD TO DRY IT OUT. I hated the damn thing. Every trip was a hassle setting it up and down three to four times. If she wants the wet, drafty, moldy smelling, feeling of being in a tent she can set up a tarp outside under the awning and sleep there. Me, I unhook make a drink and set up a lawn chair or two. If I'm feeling energetic I pull out the awning and make another drink. Good riddance to the pup and enjoy your real trailer.

RE: Options on a built-to-order TT

I'm with JJ in the camp that if your are ordering a trailer and considereing the options you have have listed that you at least ought to inform yourself about what the trailer will weigh as built and make sure that the running gear is in that leauge. I have also found that manufacturers have a standard option list that everyone see's ...... and then the list of things that they may not really want to do but will do to sell a trailer. Just because something isn't on the list they gave you doens't mean it can't be done..... at least as long as you still hold the money. Don't be afraid to ask. When I ordered my AF30U the first thing on the standard build list was the axles, wheels, tires, and suspension components...... no they don't add any bling factor but I can relax knowing the trailer I'm towing is sturdy and capable of handling the load. To the OP, at the price point you are considereing have you considered looking at the Northwood products. Most of the options you have listed are standard build items and one of the best built trailers on the market.

RE: Filling propane tanks

I take mine off and take them to a fill station. I don't believe they can fill them still attached to your trailer. I just take my tanks into my dealer ands they fill them. We have two-30 lb tanks and usually fill them twice a year. They do it all the time. I stop by cheveron fill the truck up with diesel and have the propane topped off at the same time. Never once have removed the tanks from the trailer.

RE: Slide Topper...is it worth it?

I asked the dealer about slide toppers and he recommended we not buy it. I always carry a small ladder and I clean the slide off with a cloth before we close it. Also gives me a reason to inspect the top of the slide. MY$.02. Sales department morning meeting notes: "we don't have any units with slide toppers installed that we can sell today. Instead of admitting we order our trailers in the cheapest format possible as to maximize profit we will advise people that request options we don't have that they are unnescessary in order to procur a transaction as soon as possible."

Has anyone heard of cleaning the outside of a travel trailer with hydralic oil? Next time someone tells me there's no such thing as a stupid question....

RE: Need some opinions on Warranty work

These guys are RV techs not spec-home builders... so you may have to pony up the 50$ to get the trailer hauled in... which btw, is a perfectly reasonable charge... I'd charge at least double that each way. How did you manage to take delivery of a trailer with a cut floor?

Just call northwood(AF) directly, 1-800-ron-nash. It will be much easier than going through your dealer.

RE: 1 yr old Rockwood leaking, won't cover under active warranty

I have an issue with my 14 month old Rockwood 29' TT leaking in two places. Despite being under a two year warranty, Forest River won't cover it. The dealer re-caulked it but will not pull the window and re-seal it properly unless someone pays them. Forest River states since it is leaking from a caulk seam and re-caulking is my job it is not covered. Apparently the manual states that I should have been re-caulking all caulk every 6 months. I plan on fixing it myself. I just thought I would share my pain. Mark While I kind of feel for you. I do agree that your trailer should be inspected and re-caulked on a regular basis and that is the owners responsibility. If that has not been done in the time you have owned the trailer it is overdue. Fortunately resealing a window is really not that big of deal.... especially if you are already a homeowner. One other caveat you might want to read up on is the 2-year warranty on your refriderator that is only good for one year if you fail to have proof that the annual service was not performed. Best bet is to get familiar with your trailer by learning to do some of these things yourself.

RE: Chevy 5.3l Change 3.73 Rear End to 4.11 ???

Thanks all for the responses. Lots of good insight into the issue. dodge guy gets it. I don't like the way it hunts down to 2nd on a slight grade. I use Tow Mode, have curtailed CC and run 3rd to gain control, but that won't stop the downshift to 2nd. Running at higher RPM in 3rd will limit the need to drop to 2nd in the 55-60 MPH range. I am already the slowest guy on the road at 55 and I like a comfortable ride. I don't accept slowing to 45-50 in 2nd is the way to enjoy the open road. I just completed 4,000 miles in the last month. I was a rookie, but have advanced a grade. I am curious of a couple comments... Howl? Is the gear change technically difficult that requires a top technician to do it right? I do need to hire someone to do the work. If I traded the power band issue for a chronic howl, I would be bummed. I appreciate all the inputs. A gear swap isn't technically difficult, but shimming it and getting the lash adjusted is not necessarily for a first timer either. I'd really condsider what the guy above suggested which would be looking for a salvage complete rear end with the gears already installed. That is a simple do it yourself and a no brainer if you want to go back. Probably your cheapest route as well. IF your talking about a 4x4 it does start to become cost prohibitive.
